Diamond Stone / Diamondhead Resort was the worst experience I have ever had! First the owner told us the price and we were good with it then when we got there they told us a whole different price $300 more then what the owner originally told us and that wasn’t including floating with them. Then the owner was rude with us because we were confronting her that she told us two different prices. Well it was the beginning of our vacation so we didn’t let it bother us. Well then around 5:30p.m. today they told us they were closing the park down because they are selling it that we needed to leave asap. We were pissed cause not only did we pay for tonight we also got kicked out. When I say we got kicked out I am not over reacting. Around 7 p.m. we were almost done getting out the owner went to our campsite, cussed out my dad and kept stepping towards him in his face and the security guard kept trying to push her away from my dad, and she kept going towards him, then called the police saying that we threatened her. While the police were on their way she kept cussing him out. While my 5 year old cousin was in the truck and could hear everything and he is to the point where he repeats everything. Four police officers came ,one more came after that video. Waiting for us to leave. Diamond Stone /Diamondhead Resort is not family friendly nor would I recommend them to my enemies.
We spent the weekend at diamondhead and the rooms were great!! We floated the river on Saturday and left out on Sunday morning. Had an amazing time...oh yeah and the entire resort was extremely clean and well maintenanced landscaping. No trash anywhere. Loved it. We will be back for sure.
For those interested in tent camping and leisurely river floats, this location might be satisfactory. However, for RV camping, I would strongly advise seeking alternative options. Despite their website's claim of grill and fire pit availability at all campsites, this is not accurate. Additionally, the freedom to start fires anywhere with small dimensions is granted, but you cannot surround them with rocks or other materials. The availability of grills was limited to just a few spots. Turning our attention to their RV services, they offer two dump stations. Unfortunately, one of them is marked but situated on uneven ground, making it nearly impossible to properly empty your RV due to the awkward angle required for entry. This station lacks a clear driveway or cement pad; it's essentially a hole in the ground with a screw cap. The second RV dump station is uphill, unmarked, and lacks a designated exit path. People who have used it have created makeshift paths, resulting in deep ruts leading downhill from the station. When we reached out to inquire about other RV-friendly campsites with dump stations, we were immediately asked if we were referring to Diamond Head—implying its notorious reputation. While family-owned operations aren't always negative, this one suffers from a lack of strong work ethic among some of its younger staff members. Although the staff was generally cordial, their assistance was limited. The restroom facilities were abysmal, with one toilet, one urinal, a soap-less sink, and two showers in each bathroom. Cleaning them once a day was insufficient, and the grass that had been freshly mowed just prior to our arrival inevitably made its way into our camper, RV, and the bathrooms. In summary, if your primary goal is river floating, Diamond Head might suit your needs. Their pricing, around $33 per person, is reasonable. While cabins are available, we cannot provide a review of them as we opted for our camper. Tent camping appears to be passable, but for RV owners, I strongly recommend seeking accommodations elsewhere.
We LOVED Diamondhead. We will definitely be back! It was so beautiful and the campsites were fine for what we needed. I wish there was more trees in the RV area, it was so hot, we needed some shade! One thing I will say, bc I was looking for it when I was reading the reviews, there is river access from the campgrounds! We went down periodically to rinse off and cool down. Overall, it rained like crazy both nights we went so no one was too loud or bothersome. Great time.
I came here a few years ago and LOVED the experience. We didn't stay the night there, just did the float trip. Just last weekend I came again and unfortunately it wasn't as good of an experience. I had called a couple months ago to reserve our spot and it was very casual. They just said to arrive by 10am, so I asked if I should pay and they said it didn't matter. So I thought, okay, we're good, they have my name down, everything should go smooth...that was definitely not the case. It was completely chaotic and I just wish they would have expressed more of that on the phone with me or maybe implemented some better organization to handle the Saturday morning rush. I would recommend to pay in advance and if it's a busy day, come before 9am, not 10am. This will save you a lot of headache.
Best Illinois river outfitter for rafts, canoe, Kayak. Has two stages for entertainment; one large stage in the campground, and a smaller one at the office, next to the pool table and bar.
Best Illinois river camping with RV sites with full hook ups, tents sites with AC power so you can bring your air conditioner. Plenty of public showers.
This place was beautiful, well ran, clean and well staffed with friendly folks. Float was amazing. It was Labor Day weekend so we were packed in like sardines, other than that it was pretty perfect.
Great cashiers/raft employees. Motel room was great for the weekend. All I recommend is women bring shampoo and conditioner if you need it. They do not supply any. Other than that the room was clean and comfortable met awesome people in the motel. So i recommend this place no doubt. Also the only bad thing i can say about this place is we did leave our ice chest, shades and tumbler on raft...yes we were drinking again our fault lol but Noone turned them in. So that was my only down side. I lost my phone in the river... My fault 🤦♀️ I hope someone finds it and sees my license on the back and reaches out.
